Indoor AirGradient Fan Noise Increased after a year of ownership

I have had three I-9PSL in my house for about a year now. I noticed last night the one in my room suddenly had audible fan noise. This high pitch hum is audible from about 8 feet away.

Checking my other units of they seems to have no audible noise, at this distance. I attempted to blow out the unit with compressed air to no effect.

I found this old post describing a fix someone found for this issue. I am going to attempt this fix today.

Just wanted to make folks aware this is still a potential issue that occurs with these units. Will update with my results later.

@secretformula I’ve also noticed a similar thing, after a similar time. I’m guessing it’s the PM sensor.

I am also here because of the noise. It started a few weeks ago. My indoor Airgradient One is not even a year old. I’ve opened the cover and found that the fan holes are full of dust. Tried to clean it, but the holes are just too small, so I stopped. I don’t want to damage anything inside. The sensor is working, but during night hours when I try to fall asleep, the sound bothers me too much, so I had to banish it from my room. I there any maintenance to do on the hardware? Except wipe the outside with a soft cloth.

I had to temporarily unplug and replug the AG One in my bedroom (alien display - trying a different power source). As I went to unplug it, I noticed a faint whine coming from the One that also came back after I plugged it in again. The One is situated on a shelf about 3 foot from the foot of my bed, so it’s too far away for me to hear it at night.

I got the One in February 2025, so it’s been running for a long time. I suspect it’s been sucking up dust, as the shelf can get dusty. When I get time, I’ll take it apart and check inside and give it a good clean out.

There’s no problem with another One that I bought about the same time and has been running ever since, but I think that its location, in the living room is more dust free.

Regarding the alien display, there could be a potential interference source nearby. If possible, try relocating the air monitor and observe whether you still see the issue.

The alien display is something that happens infrequently on the bedroom and another AG, but not something I’m bothered about because I rarely read from the AG screen as the AG is used as a data source for Home Assistant. You are probably right about interference being the cause. I changed the power source out of curiosity to see if it made a difference.

Hi @Rog, it seems to be caused by an interference source close to the monitor, according to our engineer’s discussion with the display supplier. Please feel free to update if you still occasionally see the issue after relocating or changing the power adapter. Thanks!

I appreciate the note about the interference source and the suggestion to try a different power adapter. It’s useful to hear that changing the power source is a simple thing worth testing before assuming a hardware failure. For those of us who mainly use the monitor as a data feed into Home Assistant, a brief display glitch is easy to overlook as long as the readings stay consistent. I’ll keep the interference angle in mind if it ever shows up on mine, since nearby electronics are common in most rooms.
