Go vs ONE CO₂/Temps

My new Go was about 20% off on CO₂ so I used the calibration setting and now reading 268, when ONE says 564

565

Should I do a factory reset? Seems to have latest firmware 1.1.2 out of the box

Temps about 4c high on GO, ONE seems correct. a couple days ago I opened the place and aired out.

Where can I follow firmware updates for the Go, and will it get firmware updates on Wifi?

Hi @uncle_t !

Regarding the temperature readings, an offset of around 4 C is something we’re aware of with the AirGradient Go. This is mainly due to heat generated by the internal components and the compact enclosure.

We haven’t implemented temperature correction in the firmware yet, but we’re working on it. We’re also considering removing temperature readings from the main display, as it’s difficult to achieve completely accurate ambient temperature measurements in a device of this size.

For CO2, could you please confirm whether you performed the manual calibration outdoors in fresh air? This is important because the calibration assumes the monitor is exposed to outdoor CO2 levels.

The Go also uses Automatic Baseline Calibration (ABC), which is set to an 8-day cycle by default. Since your monitor is new, I recommend allowing at least 8 days for the readings to stabilize.

Regarding firmware updates, the latest FW version becomes available automatically here: AirGradient Monitor Firmware Updates | AirGradient Knowledge Base

Remove temperature readings from Go’s main display?! Please don’t do that. My Go, which has lived next to my One on my desk for the past two months, is consistently 4.1C higher than One for temperature. That seems easy enough to compensate for.

Thanks @aqiguy - I agree and it is the same for me. The temperature will be stable when it is stationary however there will still be some situations where there might be a divergence. I think the best way to handle this is a compensation and disclaimers for users to ensure they know that some divergence is expected as the Go moves around.

It seems counterintuitive that a small, battery-powered device designed for energy efficiency, and which presumably powers its sensors on and off to take periodic readings, could also generate continuous heat—a significant drain on any battery. Could you explain how this works?

It’s not acceptable at all. The temperature sensor could easily have been isolated from the main chamber electronics—it’s just plain stupid design. Who is going to trust a device if I show them this data? The outdoor unit has exactly the same problem and it was never fixed.
Even if I return it, I stand to lose at least €70 in fees and shipping for a total piece of junk. Just refund my full €256.
Key issues:
Battery Life: A complete disgrace.
GPS Accuracy: Off by ±200 meters.
Temperature Sensor: Off by +4.2°C right now (which means it will easily be 9°C to 10°C off in the winter due to internal heating).
Interface: Laggy as hell. If you press a button for 5 seconds, it keeps scrolling/running on its own for another 19 seconds afterward.
Display Backlight: The LED is in the wrong place and doesn’t illuminate the screen at all.
Mode Switch: Switching from Home to Travel mode is completely dysfunctional.
I have never seen such a piece of junk in my life, and I’m over 50 years old.

I originally calibrated it inside after airing out, I did it outside and it changed slightly - still off after a couple days, better. other readings are also off, not sure if there is something I need to calibrate on the ONE or not.

Overall, battery life is not good and hard to read, hopefully some improvements with firmware updates.

Curious, I decided to test the component heating phenomenon on my own. First, I unplugged and powered down my Go for around 8h, leaving it in the same location next to my One. After 8h I turned it back on at around 20:40, still in stationary mode using wifi, but powered by battery to eliminate potential battery charging related heat. The uploaded image was taken as soon as the Go’s display had stabilized and it shows the Go’s temperature almost identical to One’s temperature. Go’s humidity wasn’t the same as One’s but it was much higher than its usual too-low reading. The CSV dumps from the 8h charts in the AG Chrome app didn’t seem to start recording right at power on but the effect is clear:

Hi @aqiguy,

Thanks for taking the time to test this and share the results.

When most of the sensors are inactive and the device is not charging, the temperature readings should be closer to the actual ambient temperature, as you observed when you first powered the Go back on.

The readings will when the PM sensor is running more frequently or the battery is charging, as both contribute to internal heat. Then the enclosure is designed to be weatherproof which means all the airflow comes from only one direction. Compare this to the ONE, where the temperature sensor has access to ambient air all the time and is specifically carefully placed lower in the enclosure so that when the natural convection is created by the bottom and top vents, the temperature sensor samples the cooler air at the bottom:

I think another very overlooked part of this is the stands on the ONE which isolate it quite a lot from the surrounding surfaces. You’d be surprised how much of a difference this makes.

I appreciate you sharing your feedback, I would like to clarify a few points.

Regarding the temperature sensor, I’m not sure what you mean by saying it could easily have been isolated from the main electronics. We have already isolated it as much as we reasonably could within the device’s design. This is why the temperature and humidity sensor is positioned in the small protruding section on the underside of the enclosure. If it were located inside the main enclosure, it would likely be affected even more by internal heat.

I understand your frustration with the readings, but I don’t agree that this is simply a case of poor design. I’ve seen firsthand how much thought and effort our team has put into the design and the decisions behind it. We certainly welcome criticism and constructive feedback, but I also believe there are more productive ways to communicate it. If you’ve followed the blog posts by Achim and Ethan on the Go production processes, you’ve must have seen exactly how much effort goes into this.

Regarding the outdoor monitor, we’ve explained several times over the past few months that we originally did not report temperature and humidity readings from this device because we knew they could be affected by internal heat. These readings were primarily intended for PM sensor corrections. We later made them available following customer requests, with the understanding that they would be affected by internal heat, direct sunlight, and other environmental factors. The devices are primarily designed as air quality monitors. We are very transparent about the limitations of temperature and humidity measurements when this is the case.

My own experience testing the Go has generally been quite good with GPS, so I’d be interested to understand the conditions under which you’re seeing deviations of around 200 metres. I also wonder if anyone else in the community has the same issues.

Regarding the display LED, we have actually removed this feature for exactly the reason you mentioned. It wasn’t providing useful illumination of the screen. We’ve communicated this change several times on the forum and have also updated our knowledge base and firmware to reflect it.

The interface lag and difficulties switching modes are also worth investigating. Could you let us know which firmware version you’re running? These are areas where we can make improvements through firmware updates, although I’d like to better understand the specific behaviour you’re experiencing. Maybe you could send a video via our support form.

We know there are areas where the Go needs improvement, and we’re actively working on them but if you’d prefer to return the device, please contact our support team with your order number so we can review the options with you.

Which is air connected to heat source… :joy:

It shouldn’t be designed the way it is now, where it’s directly linked to the main heat source via airflow right from the start. Instead, I’d solve this with an isolated chamber in the same spot, with the sensor connected by separate wiring and insulated from any heat source. The air should be channeled upward and exhausted out to the right through a mini grille. This modification would cost at most €1 more, just like the original design

Current design will never be accurate…
Just dump teh prijet an upgrade it before real release…

As now it looses main purpose… to be accurate device.it loose any credibility
. like outdoor unit… and you want to sell pro (max) devices… yeah… shure…

Did you guys tested this.for a at leas a minute… before relising this shit? Why did you send out such a garbage?
