Feature Request / Idea: AirGradient Go: Charging Limit

The Go is obviously meant to be on the go  but I’m wondering about the effects on battery life when it is frequently in stationary mode for multiple days at a time while always beging plugging in.

Ideally it would be possible to limit the charging to lets say 60% when in stationary mode and increase the limit back to 100% a few hours before I will take it with me in portable mode.

Such a setting should also be exposed to the local API for integrating it into Home Assistant.
On that note, having the ability to switch the Go into portable mode using the local API might sound a bit strange, but because of the clunky settings UI and when having an automation in Home Assistant for the charge limit, it requires one less manual step to be ready to take the Go with you.

Example automation idea:

  1. Manual trigger in Home Assistant to start the “soon on the go mode”
  2. Charge limit is increased to 100%
  3. Wait until the power is disconnected (input voltage drops?)
  4. Then switch into portable mode
  5. Take the Go with you… And eventually go back home
  6. Manually switch the Go into stationary mode (WiFi reconnects, Home Assistant sees the device)
  7. Decrease charge limit back down

What do you think?

Hi @RockWolf, hope you are doing well!

Regarding your question about plugging in a USB-C power supply for a long time. It shouldn’t cause battery overcharging. When the battery is fully charged, it automatically switches the power path to the USB power supply.

For the Home Assistant part, honestly, as a Home Assistant user, I think your idea is fantastic. I basically want to see every single thing as a controllable entity in my Home Assistant. There’s also an idea proposed by our community member to switch the mode (Portable to Stationary) automatically when the USB-C power supply is plugged in, and switch back to Portable when the USB-C is unplugged. I like this idea, too, but this could be a pain for users who don’t want to use Stationary Mode. So I think the idea of being able to set your own automation is a middle ground, which sounds cool to me. It will be a lot more flexible.

Would love to hear how other folks think as well!
