Airgradient unable to connect to Wi-Fi after router change

I have what seems to be the same, or very similar, problem to:

Airgradient suddenly unable to connect to wifi - AirGradient Forum

I have had my Airgradient for a couple of weeks now. Set-up went smoothly, and all was well.

Today I needed to change my router because my ISP changed. Now, my Airgradient refuses to connect. I set up the same credentials on the new router as the old, and most devices reconnected seamlessly. Not the Airgradient.

I connected to its Wi-Fi hotspot and reconfigured the the Wi-Fi credentials, as I did when I first started. No luck. I have tried several times, in case I mistyped.

I can confirm it is 2.4GHz, and other devices in my home have connected without issue. Neither device has physically moved.

Please help.

What is the brand and model of the new router? Do you know which channel the router uses for 2.4ghz?

It’s an Asus AX6000. Wi-fi 6, configured for 2.4 + 5GHz.

Current control channel is 11.
WPA2 personal.

Hope that helps.

Do both bands use the same SSID? If so, there should be an option to create two different SSID, one for 2.4 GHz and other for 5GHz.

Yes they do. But it was exactly the same with the old router. I also tried disabling the 5GHz band while setting up the Airgradient, but that did not help.

What I have done, as a temporary solution, is configure the old router in bridge mode, i.e. as just a wireless access point. This works perfectly. The new router is still the ‘router’ of the network (DHCP server, etc.), but the old router is providing Wifi on the old SSID, and the Airgradient immediately connected.

My working theory is that the Airgradient does not like something about the Wifi 6 that the new router is providing, or perhaps some other configuration ‘feature’. Almost everything else is identical, SSID, dual band with shared SSID, etc.

I suggested the bands as I know some other devices have issues, I don’t know about the AirGradient as I’ve the bands separated. Mine is WiFi 6 too and works, no issues. Without the logs of the router I’ve no idea what’s going on.

Yeah thanks.

I am thankful I could just put the old router into bridge mode and everything just connected to that and started working again. But it’s obviously not ideal in the long term as I’d like to just use the one WiFi network.

I considered trying various settings on the new router, but the risk of breaking things for everything else was high.

So in the end I set the new router to a new SSID, spun up the old one (in bridge mode) with the old SSID, and everything works.

But as I say, both SSIDs are configured the same way, dual band. Just the new one is WiFi 6.

Have you tried full reset of the AirGradient?

Other option I’m thinking about is setting a static IP in your new router for the MAC address of the AirGradient. Some IP far from the ones assigned by the DHCP.

I haven’t done a full reset. I’ve only had it a few weeks, and it works fine connecting to the existing router. I didn’t want to go through that unless necessary.

As for the IP address, it is currently connecting to the new network (whole new IP range) via the old router. So it has a new dynamic IP (in the new range), and works fine with it.
