I received my AirGradient Go about a month ago and I love it (especially when it was fully working)! I decided to make a YouTube video after asking on Reddit if there was any interest considering there were no first impressions YouTube videos. Tai recommended I post on here too, so here it is!

Considering I’ve never used a portable air quality monitor before this one, here’s a short version of my first impressions so far:

  • It seems to be a straight up improvement from the AirGradient One in almost all regards, including the reason I got it, it’s easily portable. I might only recommend the Go even if someone is looking for only a stationary monitor.

  • The customer support has been amazing so far as I’ve asked questions and reported some minor bugs.

  • There are some software bugs and inconveniences at the moment. Though I am confident the more important ones will be fixed.

  • I can use it stationary like the One or portably with a fairly easy transition. It would be awesome if I could switch the mode from the phone app or even automatically switch when losing WiFi connection.

  • It’s frictionless to use it while charging/stationary or while moving in my house because I don’t need to change the mode to portable while on WiFi.

  • Tracking routes is super cool and I can see loads of awareness coming from this feature.

  • The battery is enough to basically track my whole day as a route with all of the sensors enabled.

  • I can now be that air quality nerd that walks around tracking every unknown location like I’m tracking and catching Pokemon. I hope more people join the movement of air quality nerds :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

  • In all seriousness, I can see this being a huge benefit to the world, especially when it comes to studying and identifying air quality problems to get them more easily addressed over time.

If you’re thinking about buying this, save your money. After testing it out, I completely regret this purchase. The device is borderline unusable due to a stack of basic flaws:

  • ​Performance: Painfully slow, buggy, and constantly lags.
  • ​Battery Life: Terrible longevity — drains far too quickly.
  • ​Accuracy: Temperature readings are way off and totally unreliable.
  • ​Display: The backlight/illumination is so poorly executed it’s almost unreadable.
  • ​Design: Terrible overall ergonomics and hardware design.

​Save yourself the headache and skip this one completely.

I’ll paste my response from Reddit here too:

I haven’t had any painfully slow lag even though sometimes the buttons aren’t super responsive on the device itself. That’s better than the One for example which doesn’t even have on device buttons. The bugs are an issue right now, but they are gradually being fixed to the point that I don’t run into any concerning bugs anymore.

You can adjust the refresh time and many other settings to prolong the battery life. I personally don’t worry about it much because I mostly use it stationary. Though, when I do use it portably it can easily last a day with the right settings. The fact that it even has a battery is great again compared to the One so that it’ll still work even if you have a power outage when using it stationary.

I agree the temperature readings are offset, but I think that’s a pretty easy software fix considering they are already consistent, just too high currently.

There is no backlight, it’s an e-ink display without a backlight which I love. That is a trade off though, in low light it can be hard to see and impossible in pitch darkness. Just shine a light on it and it’s fine. There are also lights that you can enable for certain air quality metrics if you want. If that’s what you’re referring to then I’ll have to take your word considering I don’t use them.

I think it’s not an ergonomic device because it’s made to be affordable and repairable. I’d trade ergonomics for affordable and repairable any day. That being said, I don’t have a problem with the ergonomics either…

I understand where you’re coming from, but I strongly disagree with your overall assessment.
