AirGradient and the U.S. Tariff Changes

You’ve probably been seeing the news about tariffs and international trade, and maybe you’re wondering: “How does all this affect my AirGradient order, especially if I’m in the US?”. First, I want to acknowledge that this creates uncertainty. It’s not ideal for you, us, or our mission to get more accurate air quality monitoring out into the world. But here’s the important part: we will manage this. We’ve tackled challenges before, and we’ll navigate this one, too, staying focused on delivering great products and fulfilling our mission. We promise to remain open and transparent throughout and aim to clarify this complex situation as much as possible.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.airgradient.com/blog/airgradient-and-the-us-tariff-changes/

If and when the day comes, will the aforementioned price increase be universal, or only apply to units shipping out of the US based warehouse?

We haven’t made a decision yet but are also working on a solution for our EU customers to smoothen the import process there.

Thanks Achim for the update and transparency! Will there be any major hardware updates to AG One indoor monitor soon? I’m considering picking up a few more for more granular coverage

No. We plan an upgrade of the indoor one middle of next year. This year we are busy with launching the new outdoor monitor Open Air Max.

Is there an update on the US warehouse status now that de minimis no longer applies?

We will continue shipping out of Thailand but with DDP (delivery duty paid) and a new express service. This way there will be no fees when you receive the units and it will also be faster.

However probably expect some delays in the next few weeks because I believe the US postal custom clearance will be overloaded.

That is great news, especially with prepaid duties. A lot of people I know have gotten packages held up, or sticker shock on delivery of their shipments due to duties not being paid.

Let me clarify that this currently only applies to US shipments and covers the new 19% tariff. Shipments to the EU and other countries, the receiver must still cover the import costs (mainly VAT).

With Trump’s tariffs being struck down by the Supreme Court, can US customers expect to see these charges removed soon? Or are they part of some category that isn’t affected by the ruling?

We’re in touch with DHL on this. At least as of the last update (Monday) from DHL, the tariff rate for Thailand (19%) appears to remain the same. As soon as we have an update on the changes, we will proceed accordingly.

To clarify above.

We try to stay current with the tariffs for the United States that we charge in the shop. Currently it is 15% as this appears to be the new tariff (down from 19%).

In this volatile situation we also made the decision to cover any unexpected rate differences from our side. So we will not charge anything additional than what you pay on the shop (for shipments to the US).

DHL sometimes needs a few days to adjust but this should not impact the buyer as DHL charges us for the tariff.
