Wifi Connection Issues - Unifi

Hi Everyone,

I’m using a few airgradient I-9PSL-DE units - in an office space with quite a complex Unifi based wifi setup, I’m having issues with one of the units that constantly connects to an AP that is about as far away as possible to the unit - as a result it seems to drop offline quite a few times throughout the day.

I’ve tried the Unifi lock to access point setting and it makes the issue worse - with the I-9PSL-DE completely refusing to connect.

I’ve tried a reset and wiping the wifi settings - but still end up with the same issue.

Is there any chance that a future firmware update would allow me to select SSID and BSSID for the I-9PSL-DE so that it reliably tries to connect to the nearest AP ?

I have somewhat similar issues with the same device as well as the earlier Pro models using ESP8266.

I have noticed that if I reset the furthest away Unifi AP, then I can get devices to connect to the closer one and improve signal.

I use a mix of AirGradient firmware and ESPHome and haven’t researched either to lock them to a particular AP.

I’m also having issues with the “Lock to AP” feature of Unifi when used in conjunction with my O-1PST which was bouncing around APs.

U7 Lite is significantly closer than U6 Extender (half the distance) and this is visible in the signal shown above. While it was connected to U6 Extender, I tried to use the “Lock to AP” feature to move it to U7 Lite. This caused an outage until I removed the lock.

I will try to lock it again if I can catch it on U7 Lite.
