Use Air Gradient One outdoors once/only occasionally

Hello,

can the Air Gradient One also be used outdoors for short periods of time? We are currently looking for a property and have found something on a kind of busy road. I would now like to park the car nearby and take a measurement for 1-2 hours with the Air Gradient One connected to a power bank or power station to get an estimate of the pollution level.

Would this be effective and would the readings be reasonably reliable? Would I have problems with the sensors due to dust if the measurement only takes place for such a short time and not permanently? Should I perhaps put some kind of cap over it so that the device is protected from the wind, like the AirGradient Open Air?

Thank you for your opinions!

Yes, that should be no problem. The PM gives reliable data pretty much immediately after power on.

The AG One works fine tethered to a mobile hotspot and powered by a battery. This way you can get real-time readings in your dashboard as well as looking at the unit.
Remember that you may have different pollution levels at different times of the day - so a single 1-2 hour window may not be accurate for all periods throughout a week.

Hey @Achim_AirGradient, I’m trying to do the opposite - using an O-1PST indoors (for a few months until I can get WiFi out to the outdoor location).

I see in admin > edit location there is a checkbox for “indoors” but I’m not able to toggle it on. Any insights here?

And I try to use the indoor sensor for outdoor, having the same issues. The checkbox for indoor I’d greyed out, but ticked. So no chance to convince the dashboard to show the data as outdoor data…
