Two Devices in same location - VOC readings don’t match

I have two devices within inches of each other. Set them up yesterday. With one exception, their readings track. But not VOC’s. Is there an explanation and possible fix for this?

Were they both powered on at the same time? The Index value is based on changes over time, so if they weren’t powered on together I would expect some drift.

I would leave them be and see in 3-4 days if they start aligning more

About 1 hour apart. Kind of late in the evening. To begin with, they were very close to each other. By the morning, they had drifted apart. And have stayed that way. I induced that big spike by burning incense. Which exaggerated the difference apparently.

This is more of a curiosity, rather than a problem for my use case. I will be installing a 3D printer in my basement workshop. When printing, I want to observe the impact on air quality near the printer and upstairs, likely in my bedroom. The fact that the two sensors correlate is encouraging. So, even if the absolute values are offset, the trend is what really matters to me.

If air quality deteriorates significantly, especially upstairs, I can then try various mitigation techniques to see what their impact is.

The 3D printing community is often extreme in their POV’S on what to do about the air quality impact. Including some who say, that no one should ever print in their house without outside ventilation. Often with nothing to back up their extreme views. Then there are others who say “I’m not dead yet’ so there is nothing to worry about.

I’m early on, but I’m encouraged so far on the product’s ability to track across devices, even if the absolutes are offset.

That gives me at least some foundation to attempt mitigation techniques, and get some measure of effectiveness. If necessary, that is.

These blog articles are great resources on the topic:

Agreed. Read both of those. Thanks. They did not really explain why two sensors in the same location would read differently though.

I haven’t noticed any spikes in VOCs or PM2.5 when printing PLA or ABS, so your mileage may vary

Kind of surprised to hear that about ABS. Do you have an enclosed printer? Your were right. The values have now converged.

Yes, an enclosed Voron Trident with a Nevermore Mini filter. When doing ABS I typically use Fusion Filaments.

Yes. They do, however, explain the concept of “baselining” a bit which is what @MallocArray referred to. I’m actually working on a blog article which should be out before or after the holidays which goes into detail on this. I will link it here as well when it’s out!

Thanks. I will go back and re-read those to better understand baselining. Looking forward to the upcoming blog post.
