Spare pins on DIY Basic kit

I want to use a simple Green, Yellow, Red LED on a DIY Basic kit (PCB Version 4.0). The PCB has solder holes for pins D0, D7 and D8. I know I could use an LED strip, but I have an existing RYG “traffic light” style already. Any reason I should not use these 3 pins?
I have an ammeter on the USB plug and notice mA consumption is typically 120 mA and very occasionally spikes to 340. I believe a typical LED draws 20 mA and Wemos D1 mini is rated 500 mA.
Seems like this is a helpful and easy hack. LEDs show status at a glance from a distance. Ideas/feedback?

I guess it should work.
