outdoor unit wifi problem - connection breaking several times a day

The wifi connection setup went fine, however, the connection goes down often for shorter/longer periods. Pls see the attached picture.

Other devices, using the same wifi network, work fine without any connection problem.

Any advice pls what could the problem be?

Thanks!

Hi @bandibacsi,

If you examine the data at a higher resolution (5-minute average or export raw data), are the dropouts quite consistent?

I would guess that this is either a weak WiFi signal or an issue with the USB adapter you are using. You can check the WiFi signal from the dashboard.

By default, the column isn’t enabled, but you can turn it on by clicking the ‘column’ icon (three rectangles) to the top-right of your monitor’s data.

If it is lower than -80, this could be the cause. If not, I would recommend trying a different USB adapter to see if that helps.

If it is lower than -75 I’ve seen it cause connection issues.

Thank you for the ideas!

In 5 min scale, the pattern is quite the same. The signal strength is between -60 and -70 dBm, as expected, the AP is very close.

So I have replaced the USB adapter, now testing the behavior, I’ll report back tomorrow!

Cheers

Hi,

Replacing the power supply did not help. The outages are still appearing.

I did two more experiments. After the unit went offline, I disconnected and reconnected the power supply. The unit went online after some seconds.

In another case, again when the unit went offline, I switched off and on again the wifi of the AP. The unit went online after some seconds.

Let me attach here a picture of the signal strength, 5 min resolution. Outages are well visible.

Any ideas what to do?

I would look at the Wifi access point logs - they will often given hints as to why a device disconnected. Also, often the AP will log the interference levels and signal to noise ratios.

I live in a pretty densely populated area so there are too many people using every possible 2.4 GHz WiFi channel so any device that is 2.4 GHz only randomly drops off due to RF interference from other devices and access points on the same channel even if the signal strength is very strong. As there are more 5 GHz WiFi channels, devices on 5 GHz are much more stable.

The problem seems to be solved. The ISP changed the router to a Technicolor AP (it was their device, terminating the optical cable), that made the problem even worse. I kept on complaining so they replaced again, this time to a Sagemcom router, which works fine with Airgradient.
WiFi can be a mistery.

Anyway, thanks for all the hints and support, let’s close the case.
