I am looking for the best dehumidifier for the basement as i recently started noticing a musty smell and damp feeling down there, especially after heavy rain. i have been experiencing excess moisture, occasional mold spots, and that sticky air that just makes the space uncomfortable to use. i went through reviews from trusted sources like reddit home improvement threads, wirecutter, consumer reports, and amazon reviews and after comparing many options these two kept coming up as the top choices:
Psos dehumidifier

Gasbye dehumidifier for Basement
https://www.amazon.com/Gasbye-Dehumidifer-Basement/dp/B0CXML5P2M?th=1
however, i am having trouble deciding which one would be better for me and i would love to get your expert advice and hoping maybe some homeowners or people who have dealt with basement moisture issues on this forum can also share their advice.
i usually want something powerful enough for a basement, not too noisy, and easy to drain or maintain long term. any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
You have clearly done your research. Psos and Gasbye are both well-reviewed and commonly recommended for basement use. I’d base the final decision on things like basement size, where you’ll drain the water, and how often the space is used. Either choice should help eliminate that sticky air and keep mold issues under control.
I and a friend have four of the same model dehumidifier between us. This is the Blyss WDH-316DB 16Ltr model . Blyss is the trademark of Screwfix (UK seller), but I suspect that it it is a badged model available elsewhere

This was my first experience of using a ‘proper’ dehumidifier and I was very pleased with the results and it was very effective at removing moisture. There has never been any problem with this model since we’ve had them.
Other similar rated dehumidifiers may be just as good, or better. Below is my experience of using a humidifier:
The humidifiers have been used to remove damp from a conservatory, dry plaster, permanently keep damp out of a brick shed, and keep an outside bedroom wall damp free in cold weather when there is condensation around. Importantly, the dehumidifier gets regular use as a clothes drier when it’s impossible to get the washing dry outdoors. My friend and I both use these on a regular basis for this in our homes.
One thing that is a definite advantage is to make sure you get a dehumidifier with the option to continually drain via an external hose. That way, as long as you have somewhere to drain the water to, you don’t have to worry about keep emptying the water container.
