Lifespan of Open Air

For those who own / have owned an Airgradient Open Air outdoor monitor what is the typical lifetime of the unit? How long did it last before dying / needing replacement?

I have had 3 PurpleAir monitors now and they only last 2 years before they have to be replaced.

I registered mine on Oct 23, 2023 and it is still going

With purple airs I have found that the power cable has a tendency to fail before the actual unit.

From what I’ve seen so far, the units hold up very well over time. And one advantage compared to most commercial monitors is that they’re fully modular so if a component ever does fail, you can replace just that part instead of the entire device. That makes long-term maintenance a lot cheaper and extends the practical lifetime quite a bit.

Great point about the PurpleAir power cables failing first! That’s definitely something to keep an eye on, especially for an outdoor unit. Good to hear your Open Air is still going strong after two years, MallocArray

I’ve also had two devices outside for over two years now and neither has encountered any issues. I did have a third that required a sensor swap (PM), but that was because it fell and got damaged by water.

For me it was zero.
I tested outdoor unit inside before placing it outside. It was so inaccurate that I did not try to actually use it.

Mine is working, however the NOX VOC sensor has stopped. About 2 years.
