Home Assistant - Post data to Airgradient

I just setup an Open Air O-1PST and have it setup for local control with Home Assistant. Everything is working well aside from the “Post data to Airgradient” option. It’s toggled on but not contributing data as far as I can tell and I don’t see any configuration options for it.

Is it required for the device to be directly connected to Airgradient in order to share data? It’s on a local network that does not have internet access but the Home Assistant server it’s connected to does. I was assuming I could share data via the Home Assistant integration but it’s looking like that may not be the case?

Hi @orange, welcome to our community!

It is required for the device to be directly connected to the AirGradient server, which means you need to allow it internet access.

It also needs to be registered on the AirGradient Dashboard separately from Home Assistant to share the air quality data publicly on the AirGradient Map (you need this step to configure the location (coordinates) the monitor is located at, and how you would like your data to be handled.

You can see Share Your AirGradient Outdoor Data Publicly on the AirGradient Map and OpenAQ | AirGradient Knowledge Base for more details on how to share the data to the AirGradient Map.

Please feel free to let me know if there are any questions. I’m very happy to help.

Thanks!

Ahh ok, that’s a bummer. I’ll just keep my data local for now then as the Open Air lives on my IoT network with all my other sensors and smart devices that are forever blocked from the internet.

Enabling sharing of data from the Home Assistant plugin directly would be a nice future update if possible!

@orange, thanks for your feedback and your enthusiasm for sharing the air quality data with the community!

In the meantime, there are some community-made alternatives you might be interested to share your air quality data with Sensor.Community: Thomas' Blog.
