Device unresponsive after failed upgrade.

My AirGradient ONE is unresponsive after a firmware upgrade failed. When I connect to it and look at the logs, all I get is:

ESP-ROM:esp32c3-api1-20210207
Build:Feb 7 2021
rst:0x15 (USB_UART_CHIP_RESET),boot:0x7 (DOWNLOAD(USB/UART0/1))
Saved PC:0x400462e2
waiting for download

All attempts to install the firmware now result in “Installation Failed Timeout”.

Anything I can do to bring it back to life?

Some more information. When I don’t enter the flashing mode and look at the logs I see:

ESP-ROM:esp32c3-api1-20210207
Build:Feb 7 2021
rst:0x3 (RTC_SW_SYS_RST),boot:0xf (SPI_FAST_FLASH_BOOT)
Saved PC:0x403cf91a
SPIWP:0xee
mode:DIO, clock div:1
load:0x3fcd5810,len:0x438
load:0x403cc710,len:0x918
load:0x403ce710,len:0x25f4
entry 0x403cc710

repeated over and over. The web-page becomes unresponsive and eventually the connection is lost with:

Terminal disconnected: NetworkError: The device has been lost.

I tried restarting the computer, swapped out the USB cable and tried a different USB port. I’m doing this on Ubuntu Linux with Chrome. This is the same machine that successfully flashed the initial version.

Hi @rocketboom !

Have you tried factory resetting your monitor?
For firmware versions lower than 9.2.4 - AirGradient ONE Factory Reset (Firmware <9.2.4)
For firmware versions 9.2.4 and higher: AirGradient ONE Factory Reset (Firmware >9.2.4)

After completing factory reset, please try again.

Let me know if issue is resolved! Thanks!

Hi @Yehor_AirGradient

No luck. The device does not enter the color cycle after powering it on while holding the reset button. (I’ve got the back off to make sure I was really pressing the button. ) I held it a while anyway but the behavior is unchanged when I try the update again.

@rocketboom Could you please write us here https://www.airgradient.com/support/

We will take a look.

Thanks @Yehor_AirGradient I’ve sent a message via that page.

Switching computers did the trick. Are there known issues with Chrome on Linux? At any rate, it’s connecting and I see new data on the dashboard.

Unfortunately, the screen on the device goes blank after the “warming up” message and stays that way. Any idea what might be going wrong?

Thanks

Nick on the support team set me straight. The night-time brightness of the display was set to zero. After adjusting that I have my display back.

Thanks so much. Your support team rocks.
