Best way to add to HomeKit

I just got myself an AirGradient ONE. I’m super new to this DIY space and think I’m a bit in over my head. I have the device working properly on the dashboard, but would like to integrate with HomeKit.

I read through a bunch of the information regarding the community made custom firmware to add HomeKit support, but I couldn’t even start to figure out the actual step by step instructions of loading the custom firmware. Not even sure if it supports my device.

Perhaps I’m a bit in over my head. Any advice on how to get started, or should I divert to HomeBridge - don’t have a server for that either but maybe I should?

I’m piecing bits and pieces together. So it seems like I use software on my mac called [ ESP8266 Arduino Core] to flash on new firmware.
As this HomeKit firmware is based on a 2 year old firmware though, it seems I’d need to build a new firmware by copying over the relevant parts of the HomeKit code into the new firmware. I’m new to this side of DYI haha.

Only done more research and I think I’m out of luck - it seems like maybe parts of the code aren’t compatible with the new board and I’m not knowledge enough to figure it out :rofl: I’ll look into Home Assistant instead.

The path for this for the time being is probably to add the device to HomeAssistant, and then add a HomeKit Bridge so you can expose the sensors directly into HomeKit. I’ll be fiddling with this soonish and I’ll report back for others.

For anyone else who ends up here like I did, I tried my hand at making an experimental HomeKit integration at in PR #392 (not allowed to post a link by the forum, sorry) for the latest firmware, but it comes with some caveats. Contributions welcome.

Thank you everyone here for sharing. Using Home Assistant’s HomeKit Bridge works for me to expose PM2.5 and PM10 to Apple Home.

It works by adding your AirGradient monitor to Home Assistant, then installing the ‘HomeKit Bridge’ integration (don’t confuse it with the ‘HomeKit Device’ integration) > set up that HomeKit Bridge > expose that bridge to your Apple Home. It works as an uncertified device on Apple Home.
